Located on Chicago ’s lakefront, Navy Pier is ideal for the entire family.  There are a variety of excellent cuisines from casual, family oriented to romantic.  With over 50 acres of parks, navy pier offers shops, gardens and attractions.  Some exciting attractions include a 150 ft. high Ferris Wheel, ice skating rink, 44ft carousel, miniature golf, swing ride, Funhouse maze, Chicago Children’s museum, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Smith Museum of Stained Glass Windows, Time escape and the IMAX theater.  You can always find an exciting event to attend at Navy pier. Some highlighted yearly events are International game and toy fair, antiques, fire works, and job fairs.  

 

The Field Museum

The Field Museum offers wonderful biological and anthropological exhibits that can bring you back in time.  The Field Museum began their collection in 1893.  Look for wonderful exhibits on culture, animals, plants and ecosystems. 

 

The Shedd Aquarium

The Shedd Aquarium is best known for their incredible oceanarium.  The oceanarium is the worlds largest indoor marine mammal pavilion and has over 3 million gallons of saltwater.  This large pavilion is where you can observe the famous Beluga Whales.  The aquarium has many great attractions such as exotic fish, coral, dolphins, and sea otters. 

 

The Art Institute

The prestigious Art Institute is a great way to view over 300,000 works of art.  The art museum offers several exhibits and education. Don’t miss the world renown masterpieces such as A Sunday Afternoon on La Grand Jatte--1884 by Georges Seurat, American Gothic by Grant Wood, Nighthawks by Edward Hopper, and 33 paintings by Claude Monet.

 

The Adler Planetarium & Astronomy Museum

If you would like to get a closer look at the universe, visit the Planetarium.  The Planetarium offers several exhibits on the stars and plants.  Check out the Sky Theater, which allows you to view the wonders of the night sky that is projected on a 68ft dome!  You can also visit the Star Rider, which allows you to experience an interactive virtual voyage.

Put on you’re walking shoes for this great attraction.  The Magnificent Mile is 3.1 million square feet of retail space.  Located on Michigan Ave. from the Chicago River to Oakstreet in the heart of Downtown you can meet all of you shopping needs.  Shops include Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales, Saks Fifth Ave, Nordstrom, Marshall Field and Lord & Taylor.  There are over 460 stores, 275 restaurants and 51 hotels.  If you would like to shop indoors you can also go to Water Tower Place located on the Mile.

There is even a section for children called the Looney Tunes National Park .  They will find exciting rides, attractions and even meet the Warner Bros. Characters.
